I'm trying to set up a VPN using Windows 2k server and in order to do it I understand that I need to forward a port #1723 as well as IP Protocol 47 (GRE).
I've seen threads about VPN forwarding, in which folks talk about GRE but mistakenly assume that GRU uses port 47 when GRE is its own protocol with assigned number 47. The GUI only allows TCP or UDP (which, in case you are curious are protocols 6 and 17, respectively). On many vigors you need to goto firewall --> Edit Filter Set --> Edit a filter rule. once here you can edit service type. on the service type edit the protocol to other and enter 47 (just remember to add and activate the rule) Hope this helps. GRE is allowed through the PPTP filter. Make sure in your server publishing rule that the PPTP filter is bind to the PPTP protocol. By the way is not GRE port 47 is GRE IP Protocol 47!
